Arthur keeps it all together! From client correspondence to delivering ice, Arthur does it all! Most days he is in the office, but he certainly enjoys getting worked over by a few pallets of bagged ice! Arthur is always in a good mood and is very easy to work with.
When business slows (April), we let him spend some time with his wife and daughter. Arthur is a car guy and has a side hustle renting out vehicles on Turo. Arthur is an avid fan of Formula 1 and fantasizes about being a professional race car driver on his daily commute.
Mark oversees all block ice, craft ice and bagged ice production. Most days he can be found alongside the rest of the crew, knee deep cutting and bagging ice. We also manage to get him out of the warehouse on occasional deliveries.
When Mark is not playing with ice, he can be found on the golf course, or showing off at Top Golf. Mark says, "I play golf and I build shit!" He can also throw an axe pretty well too!
Starting in March, 2021, Daniel has been with Colorado Ice Works longer than any other employee. Aside from sculpting ice, he can do it all! Daniel primarily works with our ice spheres or is out delivering ice. Lately, Daniel has been doing a lot of fabrication of custom made assemblies that help us to be a faster, more efficient producer of clear ice!
Daniel likes spending time with his family and playing with his new girlfriend, his Z28 Camaro. We foresee a race between him and Mike in the near future!
Dominic is the guy working on most of the sculptures you see us cranking out. He is in the freezer daily running the CNC machines, coloring logos and working on 3D designs. Dominic also helps with craft ice production and ice sculpture deliveries. "I love making the materials I work with. Whether it is metal in my personal art, or blocks of ice I get to sculpt, I love having the relation to the material of making it and then working with it", says Dominic.
Dominic is a roller coaster junkie who loves hanging out with his friends and making "art see" shows. His family still lives in Denver and they are super supportive of him and his art.
Rick has been with Colorado Ice Works since the spring of 2022. He is a jack of all trades and does a little bit of everything around the shop. From sculpting ice to deliveries and fabrication, Rick does it all. Rick is an accomplished tattoo artist who still finds time to tattoo outside of work. Rick lives very close to the shop and is one of our go-to guys for weekend or late night deliveries. Rick works on ice block makers and does a fair amount of custom metal fabrication around the warehouse.
Rick has a little girl named Ruby, who is the light of his life. All of his free time is spent with her. Being 3, she is a handful!
Like many here at Colorado Ice Works, DJ wears many hats. However, he has one very important collateral duty: Making the BEST clear ice you have ever seen! DJ is responsible for creating the perfect, pristine ice utilized in our sculptures and craft ice. DJ takes a lot of care with pump placement to ensure we minimize waste and make flawless blocks. He also assists with bagged ice production, craft ice production and deliveries.
DJ is a HUGE Nuggets fan! He works for UPS as a second job, so he doesn’t have much downtime. He enjoys spending time with his wife and son and building RC cars.
Robert is our primary delivery driver. Tuesday‘s and Friday’s keep him very busy with craft ice and bagged ice deliveries. The rest of the week Robert can be found cutting hundreds of slabs of ice, cutting spheres, or helping package ice. Robert assists with block ice harvest and also bagged ice production. Robert is very easy to work with and extremely reliable.
When not having nightmares about delivering thousands of pounds of ice, Robert loves to play video games, head to an old-school arcade or watch anime.
Eben is one of our newer employees, but fits right in here at Colorado Ice Works. Eben was referred to us by Dominic and has been with us since early 2024. His primary responsibilities are craft ice production, bagging ice, block ice production and deliveries. Eben is easy going and great to work with!
Eben is an animal lover and has 2 cats. He’s a gym guy and enjoys reading comic books and watching anime.
Caleb is our Green Horn! He is the son of the owner, Mike and decided he needed cash to buy his first car, so he’s working at CIW. Caleb is a sophomore in high school and is learning the ropes very quickly. He is working 4 days a week during the summer. Caleb helps with craft ice production and harvesting ice blocks.
Caleb enjoys playing video games, mountain bike racing and riding dirt bikes. During the school year he loves playing lacrosse. He is still unsure of what he wants to do after school, but is considering a career in aviation.
Mike Bickelhaupt
Mike is the driving force behind progress at Colorado Ice Works. When he purchased the company in 2013, it was little more than a source of side income. Today, Colorado Ice Works is the largest specialty ice company in the region, producing over 1 million pounds of clear ice in 2023.
When Mike started in 2103, Colorado Ice Works was a one man operation. He handled all of the administrative tasks, deliveries and let’s not forget, ice sculpting. Today, Mike spends far less time in the freezer handling ice, and much more time driving the business forward. Mike oversees all creative aspects of the ice sculpture side of things. Mike implements new processing methods for producing craft ice, in an effort to give Colorado Ice Works an advantage over the competition. Mike implements new ideas for creating additional revenue streams that compliment the current offerings of Colorado Ice Works.
Aside from working, Mike enjoys spending time with his wife Krista and their three kids, Caleb, Matthew and Winter. He loves aviation, enjoys riding dirt bikes and spending time outdoors. During the spring and summer, Mike loves spending time in his yard gardening and tending to his yard. When it’s time to hang up his jacket, Mike would like to travel throughout the world on a catamaran, or slow down a little in Hawaii.
